COURSE OBJECTIVE :

This is a graduate course which provides the Systems Engineering students with a broad introdction to the industrial automation. The content of this course has been revised to meet the demand of the industry in the Kingdom. The revised contents focuse now on Process Control automation, and Robotics. The first part introduces some typical process components, e.g, heat echangers, stirring tanks, binary distillation columns, flash tanks, etc. The course then covers control strategies, as feedback, feed forward, cascade control, ratio control, decoupling, etc. Next, it provides over view of the rececnt control techniques, e.g., self tuning regulators, internal model control, adaptive control, model refernce, dynamic matrix control, predictive control. The second part gives a brief introduction to the industrial robots, their applications, kinemetic model, and dynamic model.

PREREQUISITE: SE 401 or Equivalent
