The modular way in which CardBASE2000^® operates, provides a card issuer with the flexibility needed to establish a new database, initialise and personalise cards and to maintain data in a variety of ways.

Data input can be made by an operator or be imported from almost any data source. Prior to initialisation, this information can be scrutinised and updated where appropriate.

Cardholder information is coupled with the appropriate card type and products before the on-line database is created.

Card Priming, Initialisation and Personalisation can be performed at the issuer’s location or data can be securely provided to an authorised outside service.

All data is checked for integrity after priming is completed and before being accepted back into the on-line database. Current status is maintained for cards and cardholders and all errors are saved for audit purposes.Return to A Functional Framework

CardBASE2000^® provides secure yet simple methods for value loading smart cards.

Once a card has been issued by the CardBASE2000^® system it can be immediately loaded with value from a wide variety of devices and locations. Value can be loaded on to the card using cash at vending style machines or by using traditional banking terminals to access a cardholders bank or credit card account.

CardBASE2000^® performs value-loading authorisation by storing the issuer unique ‘Credit Keys’ on the CardBASE2000^® Authorisation server to accept or reject load requests from remote terminals.

When accepted, the cardholder is able to transfer a monetary value to the card using the funds download facility. The cardholder is requested to enter an amount and providing that this amount does not exceed the available funds balance and the daily funds download limit, the value will be transferred to the card.

Non CardBASE2000^® transactions and requests are routed to the appropriate institutions using the CardBASE2000^® interchange facility.Return to A Functional Framework

CardBASE2000^® key management provides options that accommodate implementation of pilot schemes as well as national and international rollout of chip card products.

Keys can be accepted by the system from a Brand Owner or Service Provider using a PSAM or secure file or the keys can be generated within CardBASE2000^® using a HSM.

Both 3-DES and Public Key encryptions are supported for memory and microprocessor smart cards.

All keys are securely transported to the card manufacturer or the card personalisation service provider using a KEK.

The tightest security is always maintained with the appropriate encryption, whenever keys or cards are transported through the product delivery channels. Return to A Functional Framework

CardBASE2000^® is a Multi-issuer / Multi acquirer card management system which provides the facilities for collection, processing and management of transaction records.

CardBASE2000^® transactions are collected from terminals accepting CardBASE2000^® cards, using standard PSTN lines or by providing an interface to existing acquiring systems.

All sensitive transaction data is protected from modification by a Message Authentication Certificate (MAC) which guarantees the integrity of the transactions in transmission from the terminal to CardBASE2000^®.

When the transaction batches have been validated, CardBASE2000^® updates the Cardholder database, the float account and generates merchant settlement files in full or truncated formats. The settlement files are then passed to the Merchant accounting systems for payment processing. Return to A Functional Framework
